Accutane Lawsuit

By Acne Free | November 16, 2006

Are all these Accutane lawsuits frivolous?

I’m well aware of the many dangerous side effects of accutane. When I went on the drug a little over a year ago I was thoroughly briefed by my dermatologist. She personally went through the possible side effects of Accutane, and made me sign off that I understood risks.

I was then sent home with a thick packet of literature covering all the bad things that can happen to people on Accutane.

And before I could get my prescription I had to take blood tests to ensure I was healthy enough to take accutane.

Before every refill I had to meet with my dermatologist, where she would ask if I was having any negative reactions to the accutane. Then it was more blood tests.

In my opinion all the parties involved could not have been more clear about the possible side effects of taking accutane. I understood the risks, and made a choice to go on the drug. It turned out that my acne came back after I went off accutane, but that’s not the point of this post.

This is about personal accountability.

I don’t doubt that people involved in these Accutane lawsuits experienced terrible things as a result of taking accutane, but weren’t they aware of the possible dangers before they started taking the drug? And if things were getting so bad why didn’t they just stop taking accutane?

I don’t mean to sound unsympathetic, but in my opinion the makers of Accutane and the people who write the prescriptions are more than clear about the risks involved.

Accutane is a dangerous drug, and anyone thinking about going on it should educate themselves about it then weigh the risks. If you then decide to go on accutane after all the risks have been explained to you then how can you possibly file a lawsuit against accutane when one of those bad things end up happening to you?

Some of the side effects of accutane can present themselves after the product has been used. Some of the side effects can leave patients with permanent effects to their physical and emotional health. With the some of the cases that have and were brought forth the dermatologists did not take proper notice to the symptoms that patients may have been enduring. Additionally some patients feel the effects of the drug long after its use. The potentcy of Accutane in causing the various health insufficiencies must be subjugated and monitored by practitioners long after its use.
