Common sense advice for getting rid of acne

By Acne Free | May 1, 2010

A reader of this blog posted this comment about for getting rid of acne and I thought I share it with everyone…

I had really bad acne for quite some time. Changed my diet to limit processed foods and sugars, gentle cleansing regime, drink lots of water, get a little bit of sun every day and exercise for at least 30 minutes every day. If you are a female, try Brenda or Juliet contraceptive pill perhaps? As sometimes breakouts are due to hormones and not your gut. Before you get duped by Chris Gibson and his “miraculous” remedies, perhaps just take a look at your diet and cleansing routine? My skin has started looking 100 times better just by following the routine described above. I tried proactiv and all the other skin care products aggressively marketed, just hoping for a change. Now, my skin is better than ever and my wallet isn’t as light either.

As a nutritionist and author of the bestselling acne book Spotless – The Essential Guide to Getting Rid of Spots and Acne, I would completely agree with this comment. Using Chris Gibson’s suggestion of using Benzoyl peroxide is not the answer to acne. Spots appear for a reason. This reason can differ from person to person which is why some acne books work and some don’t. There are many different reasons for acne such as, acidic blood, lack of vitamins, food intolerances, yeast overgrowth, chronic constipation. We have included lots of information on our site to help everyone to understand acne better to enable them to get on with their life without worrying about their skin.

Diet is a huge part of it, I can’t believe there are still some MDs going for the “eat whatever you want as long as you use accutane” approach. For some strange reason, they’d have us believe food has impact on virtually any cell, but not on the skin.

Nice information. Eat a healthy diet. This step is often overlooked by many people but skincare experts will tell you that there is a lot of truth in the old saying that “you are what you eat”. Some good ideas for healthy eating include consuming lean healthy meats, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and avoiding excess amounts of processed foods wherever possible. Consider using an over-the-counter acne medications as a supplemental strategy for getting rid of pimples. A full explanation of all of the available over the counter medications for acne treatment is beyond the scope of the short article, but if you have any questions, be sure and consult with your dermatologist. Thanks for sharing..,
