Acne Scars and How to Get Rid of Them
By Acne Free | August 11, 2007
If you are one of the thousands of people who have suffered from acne and who has been left with scars because of it; you will know exactly how embarrassing and frustrating it can be.
Acne is a condition which is remembered for a lifetime and for many sufferers there is no need for the permanent scars that they are left with in order to remember their experience. Luckily there are ways in which they can b treated and removed in some cases, so just what are these treatments and do they really work?
Acne Scar Removal
When it comes to acne removal treatments, you will find that there are hundreds of products in pharmacies and maybe even in your local grocery store. However, most of these products are completely useless so how do you know which ones are worth trying out?
Well generally if you only have mild scarring, it may be possible to reduce the appearance of it by using some at home treatments. These include things like chemical peels and dermabrasion kits such as Alpha Hydroxyl and Retinol. However mainly it depends upon your skin type. If you have sensitive skin then it would be better not to use harsh treatments such as the ones mentioned and instead such as natural treatments. Some natural treatments that you can use for Acne include:
* Rosehip seed oil
* Lavender oil
* Aloe Vera juice
These are just a few effective natural treatments which many people use. However they will not work on severe scarring and usually for severe scarring you will need to use professional treatments.
Professional Acne Scarring Treatments
Generally professional acne scarring treatments include Laser Resurfacing, Augmentation and Dermabrasion. Again it will depend entirely upon your skin type as to which one you should use and so it would be better to talk to a doctor before you agree to any procedure.
Augmentation is a procedure which involves either your own fat or collagen, under the scar to bring it to the surface. Usually the results last around six months but there are permanent solutions currently being researched.
Dermabrasion basically involves your skin being numbed and a machine will be used to rub off all of your damaged skin. This is a particularly harsh treatment and afterwards your skin will form scabs. Once those scabs have healed, your skin will remain red for a few weeks before the results finally show through.
Finally Laser Resurfacing is possibly the most popular scar removal treatment available. It simply removes a layer of the skin to allow new skin to grow. Its only problem is that it is not ideally suited to people with darker skin. This is because it can cause the skin to become unevenly toned and that can often look worse than the acne scarring itself.
So overall there are many treatments which can be used to treat acne scarring, but generally they only really reduce the scars appearance. This is still better than nothing however and so if you are interested in either natural or professional treatments, you should ideally speak to a doctor to see which ones they recommend.
