Blue Light Treatment — Can it really treat Your Acne?
By Acne Free | August 9, 2007
Are you tired of your acne causing embarrassment and frustration in your life? If so then you would certainly not be alone and if you are like most people, you will have already tried plenty of acne treatments which simply do not work at all. However, there is hope and a new treatment known as Blue Light Treatment is the latest development which everyone is talking about. So just what is this new revolutionary treatment and could it really help you?
Understanding Blue Light Treatment
Blue light treatment is not the first light treatment for acne that has been introduced, but according to the FDA, it is one of the best. Basically the treatment works by killing the acne causing bacteria. Now some experts will argue that the true cause of acne is unknown and so how can this treatment really help? It is a valid point but for the many people who have tried this treatment, they seem to have had success with it and so for them whether it killed the bacteria or not, it has still provided them with the results that they were looking for.
Blue light therapy is even being used to treat Acne Vulgaris which can be a particularly troublesome type of acne. It does not always respond to other treatments, but with Blue Light therapy it seems to have some effect in helping it to heal.
Originally, light therapies contained UV light but these days that is not the case. It was discovered that using UV lighting to treat acne, could actually damage the skin and so it is not used anymore in any acne light treatments.
Due to the fact that the Blue Light treatment is quite high intensity, it is given in small doses over a period of four weeks. Each session that you have will usually last around 15 minutes and you may experience some side effects from it such as swelling and pigment changes in the skin. These should not last long however and generally the treatment is not overly painful or uncomfortable.
What Results Can You Expect?
Results wise, many patients have confirmed that they have received at least a 55% clearance of the skin. However some patients do not notice that amount of positive results, though most do experience some improvement. It is like most other treatments, what works for one will not necessarily work for another.
The only time that you will not really see any results from Blue Light therapy, is if you have Nodulocystic acne lesions which do tend to get worse after being exposed to Blue Light. Apart from that though the treatment is likely to be successful for you though there will always be the chance that it may not work.
Overall Blue Light Treatment is definitely worth considering if you have tried every other treatment and it hasn’t worked for you. Sometimes some treatment centres use both Blue and Red lights together as Red Light is supposed to heal the skin up to 200% faster than usual. So if you are interested in Blue Light therapy, it would be a good idea to talk to your doctor beforehand to see if it is suitable for you.

I tried the blue light treatment, and it was really expensive. And it did clear up my skin – my skin was looking the best it ever did one I was finished the treatment.
But the thing is that as soon as I stopped the treatment, my acne came back worse than ever.
