Prescription vs Over the counter acne cures

By Acne Free | February 8, 2011

Here’s a comment left by a reader of this blog that I thought would be good to share, even though his approach to clearing acne differs from mine I feel some of you might benefit from what he has to say

Honestly, being 100% clear after having cystic acne for a while, it’s best to attack the situation through topical prescribed by a dermatologist. I’ve tried neutrogena’s system, clean and clear, and pro active; neither of them are anything to jump up and down about, that’s for sure. And pro active just sucks all together. But I use retina-a .1%, industrial strength, and 1% clindamycin. If you can’t tolerate retin a, then either down grade to a lower percentage, or get on different. But the retina-a is about 40$ a tube without insurance (for the generic), and I pay 30$ a tube with insurance. It takes about three to six months, but it’s so worth it. Talk to your dermatologist about your acne, don’t dance around it with these “miracle cures” and systems. They are a complete WASTE, of money.

Face cack, have a wonderful day.

Lack of vitamin B group can have an impact on the overall health of the body, and is present in many organs. Without it we can become exhausted, lethargic and nervous, and subject to a great many other symptoms. Among other things, will result in skin and hair healthy.

Regular cleansing and skin care are the most important things in getting rid of pimples. Washing twice a day with a mild cleanser will keep your skin clean, minimize sensitivity and irritation.

you need to be careful washing your face to much. because if you get rid of your natural oils then your face tried to make up more oils which can end up as more pimples

If you get rid of your natural oils by washing your face too much , you can always use a natural moisturizer or a lotion to feed your skin.

The problem with these prescrition drugs is they can become very difficult to come off and they have the potential to cause major side effects long term. I would advise trying to find a balance beetwen natural and over-the-counter treatment add in a good diet and exersize and your acne will clear.

Indeed i think it is better to consult the experts on your acne problems. Over the counters may not be the best solution for a particular type of acne problem.

Gonna have to say dermatologists are trained in what they do. They should have a good opinion on how to help you since that’s what they get paid to do.

In what I’ve learned. Proactive doesn’t really cure the acne but it will really help getting rid of the symptoms that cause acne. Also, making your liver to be stronger and more powerful organ is one of the best way to treat acne, as it will be able to handle any amount of hormones or blood toxins. Do more research about this if your interested. Hope this helps. Cheers

Nice to see what other people do in attempts to treat their acne. Everyone really does develop their own techniques, but I am all for more natural cures more than anything.

For me, I’d go for prescription from a reputable dermatologist rather than an over the counter acne cure. And it is really a waste of time and money trying and testing all the products that promise a fast cure without consulting your dermatologist first.
