“People won’t pay for prevention” - all marketers

One of the most recited marketing mantras of all time is that “people won’t pay for prevention”. I’ve been to marketing seminars that focus exclusively on how to extract the most amount of money out of consumers like you (and me) and when the speaker was asked to distill his core message down to a single bullet point this is what he said:

“Fat people want to pop a pill, go to bed fat, and wake up skinny”

Now he was using the weight loss market as an example, but according to him this principle universally applies to all markets. What he means is that people are only interested in quick fixes that don’t involve them having to lift a finger.

As much as I hate to admit it, and as much as I dislike the crass way the speaker described what people really want, I can’t argue with him. Take a look at all those infomercials that promise instant weight loss, a photographic memory overnight, millions of dollar working just 2 hours a week. These things have been around for decades and when one fizzles out another one comes along and makes the same claim and people trip over themselves to buy it.

There’s a couple books out their that I consider to be the acne version of a get-rich-quick scheme. They make big bold claims, and promise instant results, but like most things that sound too good to be true, don’t deliver on their promise.

The lesson here is that there are acne books out their that give good advice, but if you find one who’s claims sound too good to be true don’t waste your money.

Want to start eating your way to healthy skin? Eat a low-fat, high carbohydrate diet based on fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid foods that are high in sugar such as cakes, soft drinks, and jams as well as foods containing white flour like bread and pasta. We’re used to quick fix these days: taking a pill or using a magic formula. But you’re body will thank you if you tackle your acne from the inside out.

Many different factors cause acne, but it would seem that supporting your overall health with a low-sugar diet will also support healthy, clear skin.

You should try to avoid foods with a high glycemic index and enjoy foods on the lower end like sprouted wheat bread, apples, berries, poultry and fish. However, some foods on the high side aren’t easily avoided. Don’t fret. When eating foods with a high glycemic index, work to pair them with foods with a low glycemic index to strike a balance between the two. In doing so, your blood sugar levels will be more consistent, giving you more energy, stabilizing your weight, and helping you live a healthier, longer life.

Have you been let down by over the counter and prescription acne products? If you have, and you have an open mind about natural acne remedies you might be able to clear your skin by doing the lemonade diet.

The lemonade diet, or master cleanser diet, is a detox method that flushes out your entire body, not just your colon, or liver, or gall bladder, but your whole body.

And it does it in just 10 days. Not too shabby considering the most popular colon cleansing systems take 2 months and cost a fortune.

Will the lemonade diet clear your skin?

Just like any acne remedy the results vary from person to person , but after speaking to a lot of people who’ve tried the diet it seems to not only clear up acne, but also firm up your skin and improve your overall complexion.

It does other good stuff too.

I was skeptical about the claims being made, and if I hadn’t personally known the people who’ve used the lemonade diet I would have never believed their stories, but in addition to clear skin other benefits include

weight loss

reduced appetite (after the 10 days)

more energy

stronger immune system

improved sexual performance

better overall health

Seems almost too good to be true, and I wouldn’t blame you for writing this off as just anther wacky natural health fad but if you want to give it a shot this Squidoo page tells you how it’s done > lemonade diet

If you do try it I’d love to hear how it goes.

I do know that it’s not easy to do. You have to pretty much drink nothing but some lemonade mixture made from lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup. But it’s even half as good as everyone says it seems like a small price to pay.

Acne is a condition that requires a consistent skin care regimen to keep it under control, but that doesn’t mean you need to continue applying strong chemical products to your newly healthy skin. The goal is now to keep your skin free from excess oils and replace harsh treatments with a more gentle routine that will maintain the results you have achieved.

Acne is formed due to a buildup of sebum (what we call oil) within the follicles of the skin. When this oil builds up, a small impaction is formed and oxygen can no longer enter the follicle. This allows the propioniumbacterium acnes, which are a cause of acne, to grow, and a lesion develops. This bacterium is anaerobic, which means that it cannot function in the presence of oxygen.

Did you know that acne is the most common disease affecting the world today? That may sound surprising…that is, until you consider the fact that stress is the number one factor that causes acne flare-ups! That’s why stress-induced acne lesions commonly appear during the most stressful times of a person’s life- the teens and during the ‘mid-life crisis’ years.

Stress-induced acne can be distinguished from: hereditary Acne Vulgaris, which consists of papules, pustules, comedoes, and cysts located all over the face, and: Acne Cosmetica, which is a negative reaction to a product placed on the skin and consists of small, slightly raised red lesions in the affected areas (common causes are hair products touching the forehead and FD&C dyes in blush). Stress-induced acne can be recognized by its large pink and purplish lesions that are deep in the skin and are painful to the touch. These lesions are generally located on the forehead, cheeks, and chin area. They also appear around two weeks after the stressful stimulus, and can take just as long to clear up on their own- which they can only do if you are no longer stressed out!

Here are some tips for clearing up stress-induced acne:

First of all, stay relaxed! Practice daily relaxation techniques, especially when you are dealing with stressful situations.

Drink a LOT of water, preferably with fresh lemon added. This will help your body to flush toxins, and keep your skin hydrated so that it doesn’t want to produce even more oil.

Use a deep pore-cleansing cleanser and a spot treatment with salicylic acid and tea tree oil. These will keep your follicles open, and aid in healing the lesions.

Go to a local spa and get a cleansing facial. Your aesthetician will give you a treatment to clear out the follicles and perform extractions as needed, to rid your skin of excess oils and bacteria so that your skin can heal itself.

Finally, DO NOT attempt to squeeze, pick, or otherwise extract your pimples! This will cause the follicular walls to rupture and spread bacteria to surrounding follicles, causing even more blemishes than you started with!

I’m seeing a lot of confusion about how to clear body, as if it’s a totally different beast then it’s red headed step brother, facial acne.

The truth is the same stuff that work on your face works for body acne. The only consideration being your clothing, and hygiene. Listen, if your walking around stewing in your own bodily secretions you’re not only making your body acne worse, but your making the people around miserable with your powerful stink. For yours, and everyone else’s sake shower and change your clothes daily.

Now that we got that out of the way lets talk about getting rid of body acne.

As I mentioned the same things that work on your face work on your body, but some techniques might need slight modification to compensate for the increased surface area you’re having to deal with. So hear my 5 tips:

Wash With a Benzoyl Peroxide Body Bar: All this is - is a bar of soap infused with Benzoyl Peroxide. This will help eliminate acne causing bacteria. You can find this soap at most drug stores for less then $5 a bar.

Exfoliate Your Skin: When you shower use what’s called a loofah sponge to gently remove dead skin cells from your skin. These pore clogging dead skin cells can build up on your body because they get trapt between your skin and clothing, use a loofah to wipe them away.

Moisturize With 100% Aloe Gel: The Benzoyl Peroxide soap and exfoliating can leave you with some very dry skin, don’t slather some oil-filled-goop that’s laced with scented chemicals all over your body because you’ll only clog your pores and make your body acne worse. Instead use 100% non-scented aloe gel. You can pick up a big bottle of this stuff dirt cheap at most stores.

Drink Water Like Your Life Depends On It (because it does): You already know you should drink water, but most people say 8 glasses a day will do ya’. I say drink about 20.

Take Supplements: For any kind of acne I suggest vitamin b5 and fish oil.

There’s my 5 body acne tips. I hope this helps.
